Nov 30, 2020 at 12:00 pm

Today’s VetPartners Member Spotlight shines on Debra A. Hamilton, Esq/Mediator, owner of Hamilton Law And Mediation. Debra  has been a VetPartners member since 2018. Read on to learn more about Debra.

How do you help veterinary professionals?

By assisting them. in learning skills on how to address conflict-not ignore it or become defensive. Natural human response is defend. Learning how to ask questions for more information listen for understanding is key and finding common ground when confronted with disagreements w clients and staff is key. Stop Drop and Roll helps vets be proactive responders, not reactive defenders.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

I am alone in the field-shifting the currently taught paradigm under the tenets of malpractice to a more proactive response with skills easily learned to diffuse a disagreement. Help vet, staff & pet owners find a better way to perceive information, share ideas and experiences and allow for difficult discussions early. Nip conflict in the bud.

Why do you do what you do?

Veterinarians focus on the best care of their patients, sometimes to the exclusion of much needed communication by owners or staff. that focus is their diagnostic strength and may be their collaborative weakness. Helping everyone stop and listen and helping them locate a solvable path toward resolution, is what I love providing my clients.

How did you first get started in the industry?

I saw that litigation and license review was not providing closure to the disagreement nor the feeling of being heard, respected or understood by all the parties. Through mediation, everyone can address the issues early, find a path toward resolution and possibly remain clients and/or colleagues. I decided to start the discussion that shifts the paradigm and supports early dialogue.
