Featured Presentations

Thursday, January 17

The program on day one will focus once again on “Current Trends in Today’s Veterinary Practices.” We will have two extended panel sessions in which we will explore some of the issues that veterinary practices are facing today:

Insights and Trends in Corporate Consolidation:

The purpose of this panel is to give VetPartners member a behind the scenes look at the most important trend in veterinary practice today – the rapid consolidation of practices into corporate groups. The panelists represent consolidators in three different stages – from one of the large national consolidators to a growing national group to a regionally focused group. Topics to be discussed include: current trends and likely trends in the future, the various approaches of corporate groups, advice to practice owners that are currently in the process of selling or thinking about it in the future, and how private practice can effectively compete in a landscape of increased consolidation. There will be an extended Q&A time.

Moderated by: Trey Cutler, The Cutler Law Group
Panelists: Eric Smith, General Counsel, NVA
David Strauss, Co-Founder, PetWell Partners
Greg O’Brien, CEO and Founder, O’Brien Veterinary Group

Discussion on the Global Impact of how we Compensate Veterinarians (Profitability, Image and Student Debt)

In today’s talent economy, it has become increasingly difficult to recruit and retain associate veterinarians. This tough competition is on many fronts – work/life balance, compensation & benefits, professional development, as well as other factors. A talented line up of VetPartners members are going to dig deep into this issue – specifically compensation. What is the future of compensation (Salary, ProSal, Bonus, Profit Sharing, etc.) and how will it impact every practice regardless of size or practice focus? Our panel of practice management consultants, CPAs, and practicing veterinarians will debate the pros and cons of compensation strategies, and how the industry can change for better business success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Reduce the conflict of practicing medicine and earning a salary
  • Offer competitive salaries for recruitment and retention success
  • Refocus efforts on quality of care and efficiency, rather than volume and cumbersome pay calculations
Moderated by: Peter Weinstein, PAW Consulting
Panelists: Link Wellborn, Veterinary Study Groups
Karen Felsted, PantheraT Veterinary Management Consulting
Cindy Barnes, Shepherd Software, Inc.
Debbie Boone, 2 Manage Vets
Monica Dixon Perry, VMC, Inc.
